According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dustin Hoffman, one of Hollywood's greatest actors, is ready to put on his Director's hat and go behind the camera for the first time in his career. The two-time Oscar winner will be directing a film adaptation of Ronald Harwood’s stage play Quartet, that is set to come out in 2012. The story centers on a group of former opera singers now residing in a retirement home. It looks like Hoffman is putting together a powerful and outstanding cast for his directorial debut.
So far the cast of Quartet includes some big names like Michael Gambon, Maggie Smith, and Billy Connolly as well as Pauline Collins and Tom Courtenay. These are some of the finest actors that Britain has to offer. Given that he is an incredible actor himself who’s been in the movie business for so long, that it makes sense that actors such as Smith and Gambon, would agree to be in Quartet considering the clout that Hoffman possesses in the industry.
Taking into consideration the powerhouse of iconic actors in this film, including Mr. Hoffman in the director’s chair, the distribution for this film should be a piece of cake when marketing the film worldwide. Even though Quartet is still in pre-production stage, the film has already landed distribution deals in Australia, Eastern Europe, Asia and several other regions around the world.
Ronald Harwood, is the 3 time Nominated, Academy Award Winning Writer of the Piano, and 4 time nominee for BAFTA awards wining for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
72 year old Hoffman joins a select list of A List Actor/Directors, like Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, Warren Beatty, Kevin Costner and Robert Redford! .
Hoffman starts production of Quartet in Buckinghamshire this week and will be in English Territory through November.
